Powder Tankers At Suttons Tankers

A growing division  in our business at Suttons Tankers is in the bulk transport of industrial powders such as PVC and powder granules. Investment has been made to ensure that we have the right fleet and driver training to handle and transport these materials efficiently, safely, and professionally.

These types of powders require unique equipment to store and move on the road. In this post, we’ll give you an insight into how we conduct our work in the dry powders industry and what specialist equipment we use to guarantee the safe and reliable completion of our work for our customers.

What is a bulk powder tanker?

Suttons powder tanks

Bulk powder tankers are road tanks that are designed to be able to store and transport a bulk payload of dry powders.

For Suttons Tankers, these payloads come by way of PVC pellets, powder granules, or PET (polyethylene terephthalate) recyclables.

There are different specifications that tankers should be built to depending on what materials they are transporting. For example, in terms of bulk powders, there are some tanks that may be equipped to transport cement or foodstuffs, whereas other tanks are engineered to safely move different types of plastics.

How do powder tankers work?

Bulk powder tankers work by enabling the quick load of a large amount of product, then the safe storage of said product during transport, until finally the product can be discharged at the delivery point.

Although you can find many varieties of powder tank, all using different methods of load and discharge, our fleet is made up of 63 cubic yard LAG tipping silo tanks, built precisely for the transportation of granulates and dry powders.

These tanks utilise pressure and gravity for the load and discharge of payloads while minimising the potential for damage, contamination, or loss of product. This method is much faster and more efficient than using a rotary valve and bag dumps.

Our silo tanks are corrosive resistant and weather proof, meaning that they can be used across all UK seasons and (with regular servicing) can be used all year round.

At Suttons Tankers, our bulk powder division transport powders by way of PVC pellets, powder granules, and PET recyclables.

Carry on reading for more on each of these materials.

PVC pellets

PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) pellets are widely used in various industries due to their versatility and durability.

These small pellets give off the appearance of metallic dust, and are regularly used in the production of plastic windows, gutters, doors, flooring, and other items.

Our tanks are built to accommodate large amounts of PVC pellets without damaging the integrity of the load while under pressure or during discharge.

Powder granules

We work with PVC granules suppliers to transport these particles for use in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and food industries.

They are different to PVC pellets as they are formulated to meet very specific requirements with regards to their size and chemical composition.

PET recyclables

We are proud to play a role in the movement of PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) recyclables across all industries throughout the country. These materials are vital for the creation of sustainable packaging solutions.

PET is an exceptional material as it can be recycled and processed into new products such as bottles and many other types of containers.

The handling of PET recyclables must be done carefully so as to maintain the quality of the material and ensure that it can be recycled.
