Suttons Donates Trailer To Manchester College

Engineers of the future are benefiting after global logistics leader, Suttons, based in Widnes, gave one of its trailers to Manchester College's Automotive Department.

The refurbished equipment is to help students hoping to complete the new Heavy Trailer Maintenance and Repair Apprenticeship framework.

It was the idea was of Luke Edwards, a Suttons’ apprentice from Widnes, who is currently training at the College one day a week.

Andrew Palmer, Suttons Group Managing Director said:

“It made good sense for us to make this investment as it will serve to benefit our own employees who study at the college. We have been very impressed with the progression of Luke and are sure he will be the first of many of our employees who complete their training at the Openshaw campus.”

The trailer is also being used to train and assess candidates seeking irtec accreditation, which assesses the safety and competence of technicians, and is being used for brake system inspections, wheel bearing inspections, valve replacements and full trailer inspections as recommended by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).

David Patterson, vice principal for 19+ learners said:

“We strive to be at the forefront of automotive training by creating workshops that are both technologically advanced and well-equipped, and so generous donations like this trailer help us sustain our high standards. I hope the relationship between our two organisations continues to flourish in the future.”

Suttons is based in Cheshire, UK and operates globally with key business centres in Antwerp, Ludwigshafen, Houston, Kuantan, Le Havre, New Jersey, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo.
