Job Title: Contract Manager (with regular travel)
Salary: £50,000 per annum + Car Allowance
Working Days: Monday – Friday

Role & Responsibilities:

The Contract Manager is responsible for providing first-class commercial and operational management for one or more customer contracts. They will act to balance the needs of both Suttons and the customer by ensuring “fit for purpose” and safe operation.

By managing and leading continuous commercial improvement within the Suttons operation in-keeping with the details of the contract, they will deliver the target revenue and margin. Improvement opportunities will be identified and implemented to maximise operational efficiency, improve safety and implement cost savings whilst maximising customer service standards.

Take ownership of the customer relationship including regular customer review meetings and delivering KPI performance data.

Establish strong trusted customer relationship and service culture using effective communications across the Suttons and customer teams.

Ensure that Customer expectations are met and identify opportunities to continually improve customer service.

Acquire a thorough understanding of customer needs and requirements and socialise this within Suttons.

Organise and attend regular customer review meetings (QBR’s) and delivery of KPI performance data.

Ensure that Customer expectations and contractual obligations are effectively communicated to Suttons service-delivery teams.

Identify and develop opportunities to continually improve customer service.


Required Experience:
•           An effective communicator, capable of setting standards and delivering performance through others
•           Ideally National or International CPC Holder
•           Successful, proven background in the Transport & Logistics sector
•           Extensive experience of managing a transport operation
•           Experience in managing SQAS, ISO, FORS & DVSA Earned Recognition accreditations
•           Proficient IT Skills, specifically in Microsoft Excel
•           Understanding of transport legislation and drivers hours rules, both UK and EU
•           Developing and implementing HSE and quality assurance processes and procedures
•           Experience working with, and managing, internal and external sub-contractors
•           Working with and managing a unionised workforce

In the UK, Suttons Tankers operates a nationwide road tanker fleet which has been successfully serving the chemicals, gas, fuels, waste, and powders sectors for over 90 years, and is the largest chemical transporter in the UK. 

​We have a fleet of 8,000 tank containers, 500 trucks, and 700 trailers. We carry out 170,000+ shipments per year – that equates to a delivery every 3 minutes!
